Investment Time
Ours is a crazy and frequently ridiculous business. In recent times, entry to the industry has been determined by your ability to go out and buy the latest and hottest new camera. Last year it was the Canon 5d MkII and the 7d, before that it was the RED. Before that ... you get the idea.
Deep down we know that the audience wont know and won't care what the hell the programme was shot on but still, when all around you are losing their heads, its hard to keep yours. Accordingly we just went out and bought the current camera du jour. The Sony PMW F3.
This camera is based around a Super35mm sensor, the same size as movie film and the RED camera. as such it fills a need in our camera roster. We have the small, lightweight cameras, the full-size TV camera, the video DSLR and now we have a large single sensor video camera. This will be our new go-to camera for interviews and beauty shots. It's a 'high-end' look at mid-range price point. With the addition of our soon to arrive AJA Ki Pro recorder the camera is capable of capturing some of the highest quality images possible. Look forward to getting our hands on it. In the meantime we are shopping around for baseplates, rails, follow focus', shoulder rig.. if only buying a camera meant ONLY buying a camera.
